Blog powered by Typepad

September 12, 2004

Hi Tom. The new site looks good! I've experimented with TypePad before but I couldn't get a design I liked in place. Plus the work of moving things seems daunting. But I still think about it. Radio is client-based, so I have to be at home to post, whereas with TypePad you can post from wherever you have Internet access. Anyway, I'll be interested in seeing how you like it.

Tom Montag

Hi, leslee - so far so good. Now I've got the blogroll up. And I may want to tweak it as I go along. But it's starting to feel a little more comfortable.

I wish I could offer a more substantial housewarming gift. Congratulations on your new home. The site is just beautiful.

Tom Montag

Hi, Siona--

Thanks. I'm please you like it. It feels like it is going to work.

By the way, I just received the copy of Carolyn Saari's The Environment: Its Role in Psychological Functioning and Psychotherapy that I ordered. You had mentioned it in one of your posts. Anything that discusses the formation of identity in relation to place is something I'm interested in, and likely I'll post about the book as I work my way through it.

Definitely an improvement. Good clean template too.

And as fond as I am of linking you, I'm glad to see the trackback feature in place on your blog.

Hi Tom! Looks great! You started blogging in February - me too. Hope you enjoy Typepad. I certainly depend on the categories, as I often refer to older posts for my own needs - like having everything filed in one place!

I know I'm weird, but a couple of Finnish-sounding names have caught my eye: Nancy Besonen ( Pesonen in Finn) and Carolyn Saari (saari means island). I know there are lots of Finnish people of several generations in that part of the US.

Tom Montag

Hi, Marja-Leena--

Carolyn Saari is a psychologist who teaches, I think, at Loyola University in Chicago. Nancy Besonen is from Chicago originally, and now lives in Michigan's Upper Peninsula amongst the Finnish people there. The Finns ini the U.P. have certainly given the sound of their speech to the English spoken there.

The more I work with Typepad, the more comfortable I am with it. I'm not in the position yet where I can find everything in the program when I want it, but I'm working on it.

Tom Montag

Thanks for the good word about the new site.

The trackback does make things a little easier. Now, I suppose, it'll be a regular racetrack?

Hi Tom - Congrats on the move, it looks good! I must admit I'll miss the old site, though, remembering how i first made your acquaintance, when you e-mailed me out of the blue last February to ask for advice about the template. A most happy circumstance - I've really enjoyed getting to know you, your graceful writing and the unique landscapes and people you eulogize. I expect someday to be bragging to anyone who will listen about how I "helped" get you started on your first, blogspot blog! (Well, maybe I'm bragging already.) Best wishes for a long and successful run here at Typepad.

Congratulations on the move -- and it certainly looks like you have made yourself a nice home here!

Tom Montag

Dave--I e-mailed you after visiting several blogs trying to find one with a template like the one I was trying to use. At that point, yours looked pretty much like my Blogger site. I don't even remember what the question was, and I remember when you wrote back you said you just about threw my e-mail out as spam because it had a rotten "subject" line. But you opened it, and answered it, and there haven't been too many days we haven't communicated since. And by the way, I tell people about this blogger who knows just about everything there is to know, or if he doesn't he knows where to find and how to summarize it pretty clearly. I learn something from you every day. But I've told you that already....

Tom Montag

Maria--thanks! As the day has gone on and the comments have come in, it has even started to feel like home. The people who need to find me seem to be finding me, so that's re-assuring.

Vagabonds move around. But the place already looks like home. Clean, with some nice warm colors like wheat fields and apples. I like!

Tom Montag

Hi, Amy - Yeah, Vagabonds move around, but I hope to be here for a good while. It IS beginning to feel like home. I like what you said about "warm colors like wheatfields and apples." Thanks.

Let me borrow those words that (almost) every boyfriend dreads to hear: "I'm late!"

But not too late, I hope, to say, "welcome." I'm glad you're giving Typepad a go, if for nothing else than the categories features, which will make things plenty easier for us your readers.

May beautiful things continue to be birthed here.

Tom Montag

Hello, Elck - What is late to eternity? Glad you're here. Hope you like it. We're gonna go now!
