SATURDAY'S POEMS

BACKWATERS, WINTER LIGHT, ALMA, WISCONSIN

swans floating
down the black
cracks of the channels
forever over
silver pools
under the long black bluffs
stained wine-red at sunset

WINTERFALL

walking stormwind
thudding bones
through the old prairie
threaded with deerpaths
hollowed into bowers
winding out     towards the lake
strands of big bluestem     mullein
Indian grass     blasted down
whistling     white-capped
waves rolling     in wobbling with woodducks
bluebills and goldeneyes
