The third annual Wisconsin Literary Bash,
billed as "a non-urban book festival," is being held on Earth Day weekend, Saturday, April 21, as part of the central Wisconsin Prairie Chicken Festival at the George W. Mead Wildlife Area, S2148 County Highway S, Milladore, Wisconsin. Because the book festival is sponsored by the Wisconsin Center for the Book, on whose board of directors I serve, I volunteered to help with set-up and tear-down, and to do whatever was needed during the event. Later I was asked to read at the Bash as well.
Here's the line-up of book festival events:
- 10:00-11:00 a.m. - Wisconsin Public Radio's Glen Moberg, along with Patrick Thomas Reusch and Mary "Casey" Martin, will read from the works of the late Gaylord Nelson, FrancesHamerstrom, Aldo Leopold, Hazel Grange, and Helen Corneli.
- 11:00a.m.-1:00 p.m. Poetry by Judith Strasser, Chuck Stebelton, Laura Sims, Jacqueline Lalley, Robin Chapman, Lucy Rose Jones, Earle Garber, and Cathy Conger.
- 1:00-1:30 p.m. - Tom Montag
- 1:30-2:00 p.m. - Joe Reiderer
- 2:00-3:00 p.m. - Panel: Publishing tips
- 3:00-3:30 p.m. - Mary Bergin
- 3:30-4:00 p.m. - Justin Isherwood
There will also be books on display (and for sale) at the festival, from Big Bluestem Press, Free Verse/Marsh River Editions, Home Brew Press, Itchy Cat Press, University of Wisconsin Press, Wisconsin Historical Society Press, and Woodland Pattern Book Center.
Wisconsin Center for the Book (WCB) is affiliated with the Library of Congress and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters. WCB's mission is to promote the culture of the book by celebrating books and book arts; encouraging the joy of reading and writing; and honoring our Wisconsin literary heritage.
