It was not so hot
yesterday as the day before, not so viciously humid. It is a lilac-scented morning; the early birds were up especially early; there is a bit of haze overhead.
There is a heavy fog advisory out for much of northeastern Wisconsin. There is no wind in the country north of Fairwater: the haze hangs down thick. Visibility is about a mile. There is an earthy muskiness to the air. There is no hawk tree in the hawk tree place, only a pile of wood cut up for the stove. This is what it comes to: at least the hawk tree is of further use as fire wood; when we are laid to earth, we are of little use whatsoever, some fertilizer perhaps.
